Lightning..
Today, a lovely day to work in the tech profession. During a barrage of thunderstorms and tornado warnings, we managed to take what I assume was a direct hit at work. It knocked out our PBX, a cisco 2950 switch, a computer and apple cinema display.
The biggest problem of course is the PBX, no incoming or outgoing calls with that beast down. Hopefully will hear something about getting it repaired or replaced in the morning.
What took the bulk of my afternoon, was tracking down and rigging up old hardware to stick in place of the 2950 while it was down. Hopefully the new 2950 will come in tomorrow so I can swap it out.
Nothing like the smell of toasted hardware to start off a week!
These problems are so freakishly rare.. i've never witnessed anything like it.. let alone all the stuff that went wrong.. all on surge protectors.. the switch I assume was destroyed by lightning coming down our backup DSL line.. skipping the VPN and making it's way to the switch in question.
